Datsun 1200 A12 discharging water out overlow

Postby DATSN1200 » Sat Nov 25, 2017 3:43 pm

Have taken to my local garage and had radiator back flushed and new Castrol Coolant and thermostat and radiator cap replaced
Radiator seems to discharge water down overflow to ground after running more than half an hour when engine turned off ,then stops
Radiator cap is non recovery type which is what is specified for this model A12 1972 Datsun 1200
The car appears to be running at normal temperature range
Any suggestions to improve would be helpful
Cheers
Joseph

I have found that they tend to do that. Instead of being fully topped up, the level was closer to the top of the core. As long as it doesn't do it every time, it should be fine so long as you keep an eye on the coolant level.

Yeah that's pretty much just how they were back in the days before warning lights for everything.

If it bothers you enough you could fit an expansion tank and recovery type radiator cap (probably a good idea if you have pet cats or dogs).
